It is instructive that the West team have not made a move of consequence.
Save for huff and puff that would seek to deny Putin the legitimacy of protecting his sphere of influence.

Are there similarities with the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan? Protecting spheres of influence.

Putin tried giving the smaller Armenia a 30% rebate on the their use of Russian gas, and this did not seem to quell Armenia's looking to the West economic union. Putin could have decided that adjacent states could not be bought with 30% rebates. Hence a show of strength in the Crimea.

It is all in the cables.

It is all in the cables.
Thus as predicted, huff and puff was all that the European Union could offer.
Crimea goes back to Ruski, and some Russian leaders are now not welcome to holiday in the West.
    That will teach them.

Not happy with bans on some Ruskis use of VISA and Mastercard (part of the Wests embargo on Russian decision-makers) the Russian Military decide to drive a tank through the wall of the compound where some Ukraine military are holding out their surrender.
In a tit-for-tat someone drives a Hyundai through the wall of the perimeter of an Australian Government building.

    The escalation builds.

For those who love the philosophy of ambiguity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of english:
    1. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila...... Floor.
    2. Atheism is a non-prophet organization.
    3. If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes?
    4. I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "where's the self- help section?" she said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
    5. What if there were no hypothetical questions?
    6. Is there another word for synonym?
    7. What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?
    8. Would a fly without wings be called a walk?
    9. If the police arrest a mute, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent?
    10. Why do they put braille on the drive-through bank machines?
    11. How do they get deer to cross the road only at those yellow road signs?
    12. What was the best thing before sliced bread?
    13. One nice thing about egotists: They don't talk about other people.
    14. Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?

    19. Whose cruel idea was it for the word 'lisp' to have 's' in it?
    20. Why are haemorrhoids called "haemorrhoids" instead of "assteroids"?
    21. Why is there an expiry date on sour cream?
    22. If you spin an oriental man in a circle three times, does he become disoriented?
    23. Can an atheist get insurance against acts of god?
    24. Why do shops have signs, 'guide dogs only', the dogs can't read and their owners are blind?

The G8 group votes to expel Russia.
That makes them the G7 group, and as their invitation to next meet in Sochi is now off-limits naturally, it comes as no surprise that they elect to meet at Bhagdad instead.

The reader can work out which is the tit and which is the tat.

Tomorrow we look at the threats to Abramovich.

20 billion U.S. made available to the Ukraine as a loan. What does that buy the West? A sphere of influence?
It is certainly cheaper than the expenditure in Iraq, but regime change is always a bit dearer.

You can bet that the 20 billion did not come with 'shock and awe' fries.
Stay tuned for the next escalation.

Default Drawing a line in the sand.

The news that Vladimir Putin is to ring President Obama to discuss the Crimea annexation and subsequent banking embargoes presaged by the West represents a possible line-in-the-sand deal.

Does Vladmir put a line through other parts of of the Ukraine, through Moldova, through other adjacent Black Sea ex-Soviet satellites? There are Russian communities in many of these. The Crimea rationale could be run again.

    Escalation.
